Let Us Move On

Date: 25-Jan-2015

Sermon by: Rev. R. Prabhu

Scripture Portion: Hebrews 12: 1-3

Introduction

  • Christian life is a movement not a monument.
  • No place is a permanent station in the journey of Faith
    • We need to move on, going towards Jesus
  • The Hebrew Christians began their journey of faith very well, but at one point, it appeared to be regression rather than progression.
  • The Author is encouraging people to move on with Christ and is helping them to be back on their faith track.

Move on with Christ

  • Jesus is our Model – He ran the race successfully and is sitting on The Throne with His Father
    • He endured all hardships, temptations and continued
  • He is our motivation
    • During hardships, by nature, our faith will stumble. There will be many paths (some of them being worldly solutions) presented before us, and these are able to give us immediate relief. However, we must always remember to not compromise and always look to God and to seek for His strength (Philippians 4:13)
  • He is our primary goal
    • As Christians, like the name itself suggests, we need to strive to be Christ-like
    • Our focus must be on living a life that would make Him happy
  • A new year is not necessarily a new beginning. The transition must be a smooth one and we need to continue our journey of Faith

Move on remembering Veterans

  • Veterans – A person who has had long experience in a particular field.
  • We have spectators and they are veterans
  • There are 2 sides to life – Victories and losses.
    • We shouldn’t be ashamed of our failures
  • We need to move on with the memories of the veterans
  • D.L. Moody once said

“One day you’ll read that Moody is dead. Don’t you believe it for at that moment I will be more alive than ever”

  • Death is not extinguishing the light from the Christians, but rather, it is putting out the lamp because dawn has come

Move on with God’s Principles

  1. Faith
    • We need to run this race called life with Faith
    • Hebrews 1:11 – It is Faith in God who is the truth
  2. Path
    • Notice the words “raced marked out for us” (Hebrews 12:1)
    • The track is narrow and it is well marked – So don’t go to other people’s track (don’t try to be someone else)
    • Be contented with what God has given you and follow His Plans
    • God has carved out a special path for us – don’t try to run away from His plans
    • Isaiah 35:8
  3. Weight
    • Burdens will come along the way – It is something that everyone experiences
    • Commit your burdens in prayers and allow God to take your burdens away
    • Even conflicts are a type of burden – Don’t let them grow and pray about it
    • If you want to be a movement in God, lay aside and continue running

Move on to receive God’s Prize

  • The race we are running is a purposeful race
  • God does not forget the hard work you do
  • Paul says “I do not run like a man who runs aimlessly” – 1 Corinthians 9:26
    • We run to receive, not deceive (2 TImothy 4:7-8)
  • Run to please God
    • Go forward and improve your spiritual life
  • Christ is our reward, so run towards Him
